Calzaghe Defeats Hopkins
Today, I just finished watching the Calzaghe vs Hopkins fight dubbed as the Battle of the Planet. Prior to the fight I already made an early estimate that Hopkins will win this one from the looks of the stats and based on who’s the veteran among the two but of course, I cannot always count Calzaghe out because he has the potential to dictate the fight based on age especially if he will last up to half the fight duration which is the 6th round. That was my advance prediction regarding this fight but as it turned out, I was wrong.
In the first round, Hopkins did knock down the European challenger Calzaghe and he turned out to be the dominant fighter. On the other hand, I was never wrong about the age factor as it did good for the challenger after the first three rounds and after recovering from the first round knock down by Hopkins with a straight right hand to the face. Almost all the other rounds belonged to Calzaghe and it all just got worse for Hopkins as the European challenger got him on a unanimous decision to take the belt from him.
Calzaghe remained undefeated with an unblemished record of 45-0-32 while conquering the title belt in the lightheavyweight division formerly owned by Bernard “the executioner” Hopkins.
