To get a hold on what DBA experts are, let me first make clear the thought that hangs in your mind about DBA and give a short meaning that’s easy to understand as possible. According to Wikipedia, the acronym DBA stands for Database Administrator which points to a person by nature and to be specific, it is a programmer. However, there is another colloquial meaning to DBA in the environment of programmers and SQL servers and database and it refers to database administration. Both words however leads to only one place in the world of programmers and programming which is outside of the material aspects of the internet.




A DBA experts are programmers by nature who’s work involves the maneuver, monitor and tuning of the database with the use of necessary server tools to achieve a perfectly smooth-running condition of the server that handles data in the database.

Scope of Work of DBA Experts

A Database administrator (DBA) usually handles works pointing to database from the acronym itself. All aspects of servers and databases which may practically lead them to make necessary move with the use of server tools (SQL Tools) to do things right. Such scope of their work may include aspects related to what I have below.

1. Data Recovery with the use of SQL backup and creating one for the server in case something goes wrong and to avoid data loss which is actually more than a pocket money to any business.
2. Verifying, ensuring and testing data integrity in the whole process of the server function. Everything in the process of storage, transfer and retrieval is in a 24/7 basis each day and everyday because the server never sleeps.
3. Securing data is also one of the best functions that a DBA expert is expected to perform. With the use of access controls, the DBA experts may be able to take a hold of what should be allowed and what should be filtered. The resources of your database or the server should only be limited on the part of access to avoid any malicious use of any data stored within.
4. The DBA expert should also make sure that the server and the whole computer system is up in order to make the business available to consumers, clients and customers based on the need of the business and since in the online world, any business is expected to be up all the time 24/7, the DBA experts should also make sure that they make everything from the server side available in the same manner. This does not mean however that the DBAs have to be awake all time to do it. There are server tools designed just for this function and they should be able to utilize it to maximum.
5. This other function of the DBA experts related to the previous function which is to make sure that the system is up all the time. This time it is more on performance. Even if your system is up in a 24/7 basis each day everyday, but the system is not in its peak in terms of function, such as delays in the service to clients, customers and consumers, it is generally useless. The DBA experts should make it a point that aside from the availability of information, these same information should be ensured to get to the user as fast and as clear as their drinking water. Thea sme thing goes that even if the information that people need is available 24/7 but before people can see it they have to wait for a few minutes, it is all useless. This is called as maximum performance.
6. Developing and testing support is also an important need as part of the duties of a DBA expert. They are also designated to help other programmers and database engineers to make use of the database efficiently. This falls for a team work based function which as we all know is a prime factor in success to all other functions of the DBA expert.

All other unmentioned functions out there are subject however to the ever changing needs of servers and database dependent on the requirement of the business and availability of the resources for use in performing these functions and duties. Also as time has changed the way computing has evolved through time, these functions may have change or may still change so don’t count on it. Instead, you can continue to play little experiments and your own observation to be able to come up with more important part where a DBA expert can play their role. As the technology of the database management systems change, so does the DBA expert functions and duties. As the server tools continue to improve so does the work.
